The term “analogy” emerged in various forms in 17th- and 18th-century Ireland and England, initiating different theories. This book takes into consideration the ideas of Peter Browne and Joseph Butler, the thought of Isaac Newton's followers and the criticism of George Berkeley, and reconstructs a marginal segment of intellectual history, focusing on one of the most important European cultural centres of the time.
Francesco Campagnola
Laureatosi presso l’Università di Roma «La Sapienza» nel 2003, Francesco Campagnola entra nello stesso anno nel dottorato internazionale in Storia delle idee dell’Università del Salento e dell’Université Sorbonne Paris IV. Nel 2004 si diploma presso l’ISIAO in lingua e cultura giapponese. Svolge il dottorato in cotutela con l’École Pratique des Hautes Études e discute la tesi nel 2008. L’anno seguente è prima ricercatore e direttore di progetto presso l’ISEAS di Kyoto e poi ricercatore associato presso l’Università di Kyoto. Nel 2011-2012 è fellow della JSPS (Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science) e della Japan Foundation. Attualmente è ricercatore presso l’Università di Kyoto.
