Aristone, «Sul modo di liberare dalla superbia»,
nel decimo libro «De vitiis» di Filodemo

A critical edition, with translation and commentary, of the epistolary writing De liberando a superbia by an unidentified Aristo, preserved in the tenth book of Philodemus’ treatise De vitiis (PHerc. 1008). The edition is preceded by an introductory study of the writing’s nature and scope, of the papyrus material features, and of the question of authorship. In regard to the last point, the generally accepted opinion is challenged and new important arguments are advanced in favour of the Stoic Aristo of Chios.
