Both a document of Pomponazzi’s final teaching and the first 16th c. commentary on a biological work of Aristotle, this «Expositio super de partibus animalium» (1521-23), here edited for the first time, is at the cross-roads between exploration of the Stagirite’s philosophy of nature and the desire to denounce its shortcomings. These lecture notes capture ‘live’ Pomponazzi’s irreverent and paradoxical teaching, expressed in a Latin which combines scholastic jargon and vernacular overtones (sometimes pushed to obscene language).
