This broad selection of the most significant essays on 14th and 15th century vernacular literature, almost entirely Florentine, was compiled over a twenty-year period (1979-2000) by Rossella Bessi (tenderly mourned but unforgotten). The articles reveal not only the vast field of interests covered, but also the solid background and philological preparation of the writer, and range from organic ‘monographic’ works to brief but dense erudite notes, from meticulously annotated texts to detailed historical reconstructions.
