The genesis and the early vicissitudes of two great works by Donatello are reconstructed thanks to numerous as yet unpublished sources. A great deal of information is achieved regarding the dates of the bronzes, their first placement, original aspect, meaning and function. The amount of research carried out has allowed the author to recuperate important unknown matters on Renaissance works and artists connected to this topic.
